Image Gallery (College Template)

An Image Gallery or Live Delivery Platform (LDP) Gallery can be inserted into most types of pages. Some templates will provide special regions which are specifically intended for image galleries. For example, the college templates provide an option to display an image gallery in the subheader.

Requirements

  • All of the images must be the same size within an asset.
  • Images must be prepared and sized before creating the asset.
  • PNG format is recommend over JPG to minimize unwanted compression artifacts.
  • The image gallery asset must be built and published before it can be added to a page.
  • The image gallery is designed for multiple images, not just one image.

Create Asset

  1. From the global navigation bar, hover over Content then select Assets
  2. Select New (green button), select Image Gallery
  3. Enter the asset information:
    • Name (make it concise*)
    • Description (optional)
    • Access Settings:
      • Select the Access Group (users in this group can edit the image gallery).
      • Select a group from the Available To dropdown (users in this group can add this gallery to a page).
    • Use the Create button to save the settings and create the image gallery.
  4. The Gallery Options will be displayed. Scroll to the bottom; select Add or drag images into the Images region to start adding images. As each image is uploaded, you will be prompted for:
    • Title (optional): this will be used as a heading in the image's caption.
    • Description (required): describe the image without using the words "image" or "picture" (the description is required for accessibility, the user already knows that this is an image).
    • Caption (optional): a short caption to be displayed alongside the image (usually in an overlay on top of the image).
    • Link (optional): a URL to be used to create a link in the image gallery when this image is displayed (usually the whole image is used as the link's content).
  5. Once all of the images have been uploaded and their descriptions have been entered, use the Save button to save your image gallery.
  6. After saving, the gallery's settings will be displayed to give you a chance to review the settings for any errors. Once you are satisfied, publish the image gallery asset.

* There may be many assets listed therefore name assets concisely. The asset list may be filtered by type if you select a specific type from the dropdown (by default "All Types" is selected).

Enable the LDP Gallery

The college template provides an option to use an LDP Gallery in the page's header (just below the site's header/menu). It is meant for displaying multiple images, not a single image. For a single image, select Hidden instead of LDP Gallery in the page's properties and use the banner options, or insert an image at the top of the page. To achieve a similar appearance to the image gallery with an image displayed in the page, use the snippet named "Image with Caption (Main)".

  1. From the page on which you want to enable the LDP Gallery:
    1. Check out the page.
    2. Select Properties (if you selected Properties before checking out the page, then select Properties again [requires user level 6 or higher]).
    3. Select LDP Gallery from the SubHeader Type options.
    4. Use the Save button to save any changes you made to the Page Properties.
  2. After the LDP Gallery subheader is enabled, go back into the page and use the LDP Gallery button to bring up the list of assets. Select the desired asset and use the Insert button to apply your choice.

Disable the LPD Gallery

From the page on which you want to disable the LDP Gallery:

  1. Check out the page.
  2. Select Properties (if you selected Properties before checking out the page, then select Properties again [requires user level 6 or higher]).
  3. Select Hidden from the SubHeader Type options.
  4. Use the Save button to save any changes you made to the Page Properties.
